java.net.SocketException SOLUTION!

Question asked by ahutt on Oct 19, 2005
My environment from  Tomcat server info:

Tomcat Version: Apache Tomcat/5.0.28
OS Name: Linux
OS Version: 2.6.9-5.0.3.EL  (this is CentOS 4.0)
OS Architecture: i386
JVM Version: 1.5.0_05-b05
JVM Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc

After verifying that I had the prequisite  mysql and java and  installing alfresco-war-1.0.0rc1b.zip into my existing (tomcat_home)/webapps Alfresco was failing to start.

I noticed the following error in alfresco.log:

java.net.SocketException
MESSAGE: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

A google on this error lead me to :
http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?39,24742,31299#msg-31299

which solves the problem by merely editing /etc/my.cnf and commenting out the line
skip-networking

After restarting mysql Alfreso now starts.

Hope this helps any other Linux installs.
