FTP Socket Error

Question asked by tc on Apr 25, 2006
Hi,
I'm trying to run the SimpleExampleWithContent example from the Repository examples. I've changed it to be a servlet running inside the alfresco web-app. I get the following error when the servlet is called:

java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
        at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketBind(Native Method)
        at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.bind(PlainSocketImpl.java:359)
        at java.net.ServerSocket.bind(ServerSocket.java:319)
        at java.net.ServerSocket.<init>(ServerSocket.java:185)
        at java.net.ServerSocket.<init>(ServerSocket.java:141)
        at org.alfresco.filesys.ftp.FTPNetworkServer.run(FTPNetworkServer.java:377)

I've searched the forums and have found that the problem is the FTP port 21.

Is is possible to run both a client and server on the same server?
Why is my client trying to open a port on 21 (is that not reserved for FTP servers)?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thank You,
TC
