CIFS Question relating to file-servers.xml

Question asked by hm on Jul 5, 2006
I have alfresco setup on my server (named alfrescosrv as the hostname). Using the default file-server.xml I noticed the network URL is hyperlinked as file://alfrescosrv_A/alfresco and since alfrescosrv_A is not an entry in the hosts file of the Linux server obviously the link does not resolve and additionally on server startup I get the following error messages (as expected):

09:49:01,645 ERROR [alfresco.smb.protocol] Failed to get local domain/workgroup name, using default of WORKGROUP

09:49:01,645 ERROR [alfresco.smb.protocol] (This may be due to firewall settings or incorrect <broadcast> setting)

However if I open up a browser window and type in \\alfresecosrv\ in the address window I get prompted for the logind/password and I can log into the alfresco content directory. This does not make sense as I thought the CIFS hostname has to be unique?

Can somebody point to what I am missing here?

Thanks.
