ssl download error with IE (solved)

Question asked by lars on Sep 28, 2006
Hi,
file downloading via the alfresco web client fails with most versions of IE,
if all traffic is SSL secured via the following transport guarantee in the web.xml file
<description>Alfresco Web Client</description>
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
   <web-resource-name>alfresco</web-resource-name>
   <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <user-data-constraint>
   <transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
  </security-constraint>

this is a known bug of IE and described within the Microsoft knowledge base article 323308 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323308

This can be fixed by modifying some registry entries at client side, as described within the article, but this is of course in most cases not a feasible and acceptable procedure, just think of hundred of users in many different organisations.

As a workaround, the following needs to be inserted into the server.xml file:
<Engine name=…>

    <Host name=…>
    …
       <Context path="/alfresco">
    <Valve className="org.apache.catalina.authenticator.NonLoginAuthenticator"
      disableProxyCaching="false"/>
    </Context>

Best regards,

Lars
