Windows XP vs. Fedora 6 LDAP configuration

Question asked by alf_learner on Aug 15, 2008
Greetings!

         First of all, we think Alfresco is wonderful, and the only thing stopping us from introducing this on a company-wide level is authentication and synchronization with LDAP.
         That being said, I would like to ask whether there should be a difference between alfresco-community-tomcat-2.9.0B.tar.gz and alfresco-community-tomcat-2.9.0B.zip, aside from the batch files for Windows/.sh scripts for Linux. This is because I got LDAP authentication working in Windows XP but not in Fedora 6.. I even resorted to copy-pasting the entire alfresco directory from the working Windows XP Alfresco test server to Fedora 6 (while copying the needed files for Linux such as the .sh files and files from bin/ and tomcat/bin) just to check whether I missed out on anything for Fedora.

The environment used is as follows:
==========
Windows XP
==========
Java jdk1.6.0_02
alfresco-community-tomcat-2.9.0B.zip
(default HSQL database)
LDAP users authenticated  :)

==========
Fedora 6
==========
Java jdk1.6.0_02
alfresco-community-tomcat-2.9.0B.tar.gz
(default HSQL database)
LDAP users not authenticated  :(

I read the alfresco.log for both Windows and Linux setup but they were quite the same:
