Navigation design

Question asked by randomman on Jul 26, 2007
The WSF example holds the navigation tree, including content links, in an xml file. I get javascript warnings when I edit this file via a web form because it's quite big but it currently works.

Surely this wouldn't be a feasible solution if a site has thousands of pages and items of related content? Has anyone yet come up with an efficient and flexible method of navigation and attaching content suitable for large scale sites?

I'm assuming it will involve integrating a relational db. I have a few ideas on this but I'm interested to see how other people have tackled the problem.
