Segfault when running Linux installer!

Question asked by bluman on Nov 6, 2008
Hi there,

I am trying to install Alfresco Labs 3b on a fresh install of Ubuntu server 804 i386 (and amd64). Im using an HP dc7800U desktop machine just to lab this up. This is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 512Mb RAM. Ubuntu kernel is 2.6.24-16-server.
I've completed an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade before attempting the Alfresco install.
I've followed through the install guide for Alfresco on Ubuntu 710 to ensure I have the necessary packages which include the following:

build-essential (to make sure this wasn't required)
mysql-server (installed with Ubuntu server 804 i386)
xvfb
openoffice.org-headless
iptables
sun-java6-jdk
imagemagick
portmap
nfs-common

I setup the JAVA_HOME environment variable as follows:
export JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun" which is a valid path to a sym link which points to the java JDK

I've created the alfresco user and group
groupadd alfresco
useradd -m -g alfresco alfresco

Using the MySQL command line I've also created the MySQL database and permissions as follows:
create database alfresco;
grant all privileges on alfresco.* to alfresco@localhost identified by 'alfresco';

Also the paths for Alfresco variable data:
mkdir -p /var/lib/alfresco/alf_data
mkdir /var/lib/alfresco/tmp
chown -R alfresco:alfresco /var/lib/alfresco
mkdir -p /var/log/alfresco/tomcat/logs
chown -R alfresco:alfresco /var/log/alfresco

Can anyone provide information as to what could be causing the segmentation fault?
