Adding file types/extensions to Search

Question asked by driekhof on Aug 13, 2010
Seems like a simple thing, but I can't seem to find the answer:  How would I make the default Searching (in Share) find stuff in other plain text files with oddball file extensions?  For example, we're using 3.3 and we've uploaded lots of files, including some plain text files with .py and .arpa file extensions.  Searching for text strings in these files doesn't work.  Searching for strings in lots of other plain text file extensions does work, like .csv, .java, etc.

I played around with the mimetype files in alfresco/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/mimetype, taking my best guess on how to do it, bounced the server, but it seemed to have no effect on which files the search found.
