Nothing happens when I enable the JavaScript Debugger

Question asked by patorjk on Jun 21, 2011
I'm following the example on page 209 of "Professional Alfresco" on creating the "dir" webscript. When I go to the URL "http://localhost:8080/alfresco/service/api/javascript/debugger" to enable the JavaScript Debugger, I press the "Enable" button and the button changes to "Disable", however, a debugging window does not pop up. I unchecked blocking popups in Firefox, and also tried in IE8 and Chrome, but no debugger pops up when I press the button.

I've tried the webscript and it works correctly, though I find the page for it waits forever to load when the debugger is set to enabled.

Am I doing something incorrect? Here are some stats about my setup:

Alfresco Version: Community v3.4.0
Java Version: 1.6.0_21
OS: Windows XP
