4.2.d nightly build no email notifications

Hi.  4.2.d (14/05/13) working fine.  When setting up workflows no notifications via email arrive.  Using on an internal network forwarding mail to internal SMTP server.  Have test email configured so I know when the services come up.

Error in alfresco log is 2013-05-22 17:02:34,791  ERROR [action.executer.MailActionExecuter] [mailAsyncAction6] Failed to send email to 'myusername' as the address is incorrectly formatted

Checked user profile - the email address is correct and FQDN.  The email address that receives test emails is a gmail address.

Seen another post from a while ago https://forums.alfresco.com/forum/installation-upgrades-configuration-integration/configuration/email-outbound-03062010-1543 that discusses jar issues for the mailer but that's for V3.  Wondering if this is a simple config issue in global properties?
