Alfresco authentication details not recognized

<strong>My setup</strong>

CentOS 6.6
Alfresco Community 5.0.a
Apache/Httpd 2.2
Mysql 5.1 (with mysql-connector-java-5.1.34-bin.jar placed in /tomcat/lib folder)
(Everything else was installed from the alfresco installer such as Java, etc)

<strong>Problem</strong>:

     So I just finished setting up Alfresco community 5.0a on centos 6.6 using the GUI version of the installer. I can access "127.0.0.1:8080/share" but when I try to log in I get the message "Your authentication details have not been recognized or Alfresco may not be available at this time.".

What I have done so far:

     I don't know what is to be done, I have followed the documentation that gives instructions on how to configure mysql so it will work with alfresco. I made a database named alfresco, a user named alfresco, and set the password to alfresco (for testing purposes) on mysql. I also granted the user alfresco on privileges on the alfresco database. As stated above, I have the mysql connector inserted in /tomcat/lib folder. I have edited the alfresco-global.properties file to make sure it has the correct root filepaths as well as ensure it using MySQL.

<strong>Config and log files</strong>

alfresc-global.properties

dir.root=/opt/alfresco-5.0.a/alf_data/
dir.keystore=/opt/alfresco-5.0.a/alf_data/keystore
db.driver=org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver
db.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/alfresco?useUnicode=yes&characterEncoding=UTF-8
db.name=alfresco
db.username=alfresco
db.password=alfresco
db.host=localhost
db.port=3306
db.pool.max=40

Nothing seems to get added to the log when I try logging in.
