Linux disk cache/performance tuning

Question asked by jonvargas on Dec 3, 2014
Hi there.

Have someone optimized a Linux server disk's performance running Alfresco?

I've had some issues with disk performance when a massive load of documents above 500 Mb are uploaded. The iowait CPU indicator goes up and it decreases the general system performance for other users.

Now, I'd like to ask how have you handle these kind of issues? I know at the end the hardware is the final bottleneck, but there could be some other helpful optimizations that could be done at disk cache, for example.

I've read this article: http://lonesysadmin.net/2013/12/22/better-linux-disk-caching-performance-vm-dirty_ratio/

Have someone used this, or another approach, to improve Alfresco's performance on a Linux system?

Thanks in advance.
