org.activiti.engine.ActivitiException: Variable HouseList' is not a Collection

Hello:

I am running a multitasking process and I is generating the following error:
org.activiti.engine.ActivitiException: Variable HouseList' is not a Collection

A level bpmn have the following:
<serviceTask id="servicetask3" name="House Release" activiti:class="com.HouseRelease">
<multiInstanceLoopCharacteristics isSequential="true" activiti:collection="HouseList" activiti:elementVariable="houseId"></multiInstanceLoopCharacteristics>
   
   
level is java class has:
List<String> aHouseList = new ArrayList<String>();

HouseList.add("House 1");
HouseList.add("House 2");
execution.setVariable("HouseList", aHouseList);

I could please indicate what the error? or the right way to make the declaration of collection?
