When a file is edited and updated by an Alfresco site collaborator, is there a way to automatically alert or email other users of the update? (Something like a ‘watch list’ in other CMS systems.)
One option would be to create a folder rule (Creating a rule | Alfresco Documentation ). It is possible to create a rule so that whenever any content is updated an e-mail is sent out. In order to configure a rule for an entire Document Library you'd have to do this via the Repository browser (because it's not possible to configure a rule on the entire Document Library of a Site through the Site Document Library).
A minor point but it is possible to configure a rule on the entire document library from the site document library - if you click on the "Documents" breadcrumb just above the file list then it takes you into the folder-details page for the documentLibrary folder from where you can configure the rules
