European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques. Early user operation has started in September 2017.

Job Requirements: 

The position

  • be responsible for the development and support of European XFEL’s Java Web Applications, in particular extensions for Alfresco Enterprise Content Management system
  • participate in the design, development, and go-live of new applications and features as requested
  • support the production environment, assist in the diagnosis and resolution of incidents, and maintain the stability and integrity of systems
  • participate in testing, maintenance, and support of the products developed and later upgrades

Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent experience
  • three years experience developing Java EE technologies, Spring framework (Core, JDBC, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MVC, Tomcat)
  • experience with java builds automation using Maven
  • experience with SOA (XML, XSD, WSDL, Webservices) and REST Webservices
  • understanding of Enterprise Content Management systems, in particular Alfresco ECM
  • knowledge of the UNIX/Linux Operating system and bash is a plus
  • exposure to open-source Java projects (e.g. Activiti, JBPM, CAMUNDA, libraries such as those hosted by Apache and Spring) is a plus
  • English is the working language, hence good English communication skills are necessary, as well as the ability to be a team player in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team

Remuneration

Salary and benefits are similar to those of public service organizations in Germany. In addition European XFEL provides a non-contributory company pension scheme as well as broad relocation benefits. The European XFEL GmbH intends to achieve a widely international staff. Non-German candidates hired from abroad receive an international allowance.
